As I continue to seek the Lord and pray about homeschooling our little ones, I have been asking the Lord to give me a teachable spirit every day. "Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths;." Psalm 25:4My desire is to instill a love of learning in my daughters, leading by my example. The good news is that I consider my parents wonderful life long learners who’ve passed on a love of learning to me. (Thanks again dad and mom!) Every morning I want to remember that it is “my Heavenly Father’s classroom” and ask him to be my teacher. What an adventure to be a daughter of the King of Kings!
Here are some things that work for me in keeping education and learning ever before me. I’d like to hear your ideas too:
1. Books!
My nightstand has a stack of half a dozen books that I’m reading through at any one time. How do I get time to read as a busy mommy you may ask? I make time. I get up at least 30 minutes before my girls to have my Bible study and prayer time. If I have longer, I grab a book and dig in. Sometimes I even get the opportunity to read outside while I’m watching our girls play in their sandbox. I also try to read in the evenings before bedtime. Ah, I want my own home library some day!
2. Try to ask a lot of questions.
Sometimes I’m like that preschooler who asks “why” all the time. I pray that I can learn little things each day, just by asking questions.
3. Always have mentors.
Each time we move I specifically pray for an older woman to help teach me to become a godlier wife, mother, homemaker, and woman of God. God has never let me down! However, most of my mentors don’t live close to me... My mom has always said, “Friends love you the way you are, but mentors love you too much to leave you the way you are.” “Friends will comfort you and mentors will challenge you.”
4. Make friends with life-long-learners.
It always blessed me to find ladies (like so many of you bloggers!), who are life-long-learners. Women who take joy in growing, stretching, and educating themselves.
5. Start new projects.
Even something simple like learning to bake a new dessert or pastry or reading a book about how to organize your Christmas decorations can get your creative juices going!
6. Keep an “I want to learn list”
This is similar to a personal goal list, but it helps me to look forward, keeping an attitude of life-long learning, asking God to direct my path.
Psalm 86:11 "Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name."

I came over from Rocks in my dryer and was looking at your blog and it is sure well put together and very pretty.
Thank you for sharing your creative ways of learning, Sheri! I also have a passion for learning, as you know, and always have a list of things I want to try next. Cultivating this love and drive for learning in children is wonderful for to help them advance their own skills and knowledge. I love it much more than formal education!
This is my first time to your bloggy home - and I love it! Love your design, love how you're givin' God all the glory, and your girls are BEE-U-TEE-FULL! And, as a semi-retired teacher/SAHM with a toddler, love, love, LOVE your tip today! Nice ta meet ya! *wink*
Sheri,
What a great list! I thought I was the only one who was reading 6-7 books at a time!! :)
Thanks for sharing all these ideas...it's such a good reminder.
Blessings,
Joy
These are great ideas. I want to keep learning, too.
Excellent list, Sheri!! Learning should be a life-long process and I know that I am always striving to learn something new everyday! Thanks for reminding us how important it is to continue learning!
What a great post! I am so thankful to have come from a family of life-long learners...and although I hadn't really thought about it until I read your post...my closest friends have all tended to be life-long learners as well!
I am glad to have found your blog. Thank you for your sweet comment on my Thankful Thursday post.
